...After Receiving a
Great
Blood Pressure
Reading...

Due to a higher blood pressure at Ron's long over-due physical exam several weeks ago, Ron's doctor has been monitoring his blood pressure twice a week. Before leaving for his visit Wednesday afternoon, he had volunteered to stopping at the grocery store to pick up a few needed items. This is absolutely wonderful since he has not been able to do that since before January of this year, which is when he broke his leg. Lately, he has not been using his crutches as well. So...just before he took off for his blood pressure check, I woke up and decided to have a cup of coffee (after the previous night shift, I will probably kick myself for rising too soon...LOL). After about an hour and a half, Ron returned with the good news of his reading...his blood pressure is down 20 points (from 160 to 140)! This has now earned him a blood pressure reading of only once a week!

Blood pressure taken, he headed over to the grocery to do the shopping. Not only did he return with the needed items, but he managed to slip in a few added 'extras' that were not a part of the shopping list...

Ok...so...what's wrong with this picture???
Hint:
Croissant Sandwiches: Too much salt & fat!!!
Chocolate Chip Cookies: Too much sugar!!!
Cheese: Too much fat and salt!!!
Ham: Too much salt!

Even though I was not too happy with his choices during his need to splurge, I had to chuckle! I also must give credit where credit is due: he chose the extra lean ham. After all, if you're going to eat ham, it may as well be lean, right??? And while he was at it, he could have picked up the sugar-free cookies. And, he could have picked up the whole-wheat croissant sandwich with fat-free sausage. As for the cheese...he could have picked up the fat free cheese too, right? Yeah, I know. I take all the fun out of eating...LOL! His explanation for purchasing these items was that he felt like celebrating his lower blood pressure reading...LOL! Well, I 'bout popped his balloon again when I informed him that those are the type of foods that can and may send his blood pressure back up. Well...what can ya do? As long as it doesn't become a bad habit, right??? And, I guarantee that it will not become a habit...LOL!
